Shakespeare: The Animated Tales

I wrote about S4C's Canterbury Tales a while ago. That series was a follow-up to an earlier project, Shakespeare: The Animated Tales.

Like Canterbury Tales this was a Welsh/Russian co-production. This time, however, the animation was handled entirely in Russia. Novelist Leon Garfield was responsible for adapting the plays into half-hour format.

Testament: Moses

Following the success of their series Shakespeare: The Animated Tales, S4C, BBC Wales and Christmas Films produced a series of Bible animations in 1996. The first episode of Testament: The Bible in Animation tells the story of Moses freeing the Hebrew slaves; it was directed by Gary Hurst at Cartwn Cymru.

 

More Canterbury Tales

Following on from my last post on the series, here's a look at the final three UK-animated segments in S4C's 1998 adaptation of Chaucer's Canterbury Tales. First is The Franklin's Tale, directed by Damian Gascoigne of Picasso Pictures.

Next is The Squire's Tale by Iain Gardner of Jumping Jack, who is probably best known for his short film Akbar's Cheetah.

And finally, The Miller's and the Reeve's Tales, directed at Aaargh! by Gogs creator Deiniol Morris.
